Welcome to the first edition of our Samsung Galaxy S6 Tutorials, How Tos and Tips. It’s a series of guides we purposely offered to all new users of the Galaxy S6 who need relevant information as well as answers to frequently asked questions and references about the use of Samsung’s latest flagship phone this year.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 is powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 chipset paired with either 6GB or 8GB RAM, depending on the memory options you wish to buy. The storage options are 128GB and 256GB which can be expanded further via a microSD card slot. The tablet is built around a 10.5 inch Super AMOLED display with 2560 x 1600pixel resolution, and 16:10 aspect ratio. The 32GB Galaxy S6 on Sprint runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and comes with 22.78GB of available storage. The bloatware is trimmed down here compared with previous generations of the flagship, but.
The first part of this series covers the basic operations, particularly on the use of SIM card, battery, as well as answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on external SD card support, use of fast charging feature, and smart manager application with the new Samsung smartphone.
Here’s a complete list of topics that will be tackled in this entire post:
The latest Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone comes with a Nano-SIM card. Here are the steps to properly install the SIM card in your Galaxy S6:
To prevent water and dust from entering the device, make sure the tray is tightly closed.
Follow the same steps from 1 – 2 to insert the SIM card tray back into the SIM card tray slot. Be sure to tightly close the tray to prevent water and dust penetration on your phone.
You cannot restart the Galaxy S6 with the usual restart process used on previous existing devices (removing the battery for about 1 minute). This is because the Galaxy S6 comes with an embedded battery or the battery is within the device by itself.
In case you will encounter situations that require phone restart like when the phone is frozen or not responding, you may need to close applications or power off the phone for a few seconds and then turn it back on.
The only way to restart your Galaxy S6 is by:
Pressing and holding the Power button and the Volume button downsimultaneously for about 10 seconds or more until the phone restarts.
If the device is still freezing or unresponsive after the restart, you can try creating memory space, check your device is Safe Mode to terminate any conflicting third-party apps, check for software updates (if available), or perform a factory data reset (last resort) when necessary. If you don’t want to perform hard reset, then contact Samsung Support or your phone carrier for further assistance and recommendations.
Samsung Galaxy S6 supports Samsung’s Adaptive fast charging feature and Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0. It comes with a built-in fast charging feature used for charging the battery faster while the phone or its screen is inactive or turned off. The feature utilizes battery charging technology that increases the charging power thus charges the battery faster than normal.
Here’s how to use fast charging on the new Galaxy S6:
Important Note: The phone screen needs to be off because you cannot use the fast charging feature when the screen is turned on.
The charging speed may decrease automatically, if the phone heats up or the ambient air temperature rises, prevent damage to the device. Also, the charging speed may vary depending on the battery percentage left at the time when charging begins. The remaining charge time can be viewed or checked on the screen but the actual remaining time may differ by charging conditions.
As disclosed in initial reviews, the Galaxy S6 comes with a non-removable type of battery (2, 550mAh). In this regard, Samsung recommends contacting your service provider or an authorized repair agent to remove or replace the battery. However, removing the battery may also void your warranty and replacement of new battery may cost you extra fees.
Samsung Galaxy S6 is integrated with an internal memory, which denotes you cannot expand the internal storage due to absence of MicroSD card slot to insert an external SD card.
To transfer data from an old Galaxy device to the new Galaxy S6, including files within an SD card, the use of Samsung Smart Switch mobile is recommended.
Backing up of transferrable files like photos to a computer using Connected as a media device (MTP) mode or using Samsung Smart Switch PC program is also advised to create more space on your phone. The use of Samsung Accountor Google Account for periodical backup is also advised.
There are some instances when touch inputs are not recognized well especially on edges of the screen while using the Galaxy S6. There’s nothing to worry though.
By design, touches won’t be recognized on the edge (0.44mm) of the screen. It’s an added feature to allow the phone rest more comfortably in your hand to prevent any unintentional touches without compromising user experience.
The Galaxy S6 offers the Smart Manager application to provide an overview of the status of your phone’s battery, RAM, storage, and system security. And with a single tap of your finger, you can automatically optimize your device. This feature is referred to as quick optimization, designed to enhance the device performance. It helps identify apps that use excessive battery power, deletes unwanted files, close unused apps running in the background and scans for malware and phishing attacks.
How to use Smart Manager
Here’s how to use the Smart Manager on your Galaxy S6 handset:
A Clean All function (button) is also provided beneath the screen. Simply tap this button to automatically optimize your device with a single tap of your finger.
